Dive Log

I like to keep logs of my dives.  My dive computer records the dive itself. The log has the Place, people & events.

On a boat, especially when diving multiple dives, paper logs will get wet. Once they are wet, they get pulpy. Sometimes that is the last time they are readable.

I searched and could not find a dive log that let me record the information that I wanted and was water resistant.

I did find Rite in the Rain -  Rite in the Rain All Weather Printer Paper, 8.5x11 Letter, No. 8511-50 

I fired up Microsoft Word and designed the dive log that suite me. It has the data fields that I want to collect, It can be written on with a pencil or pen, wet or dry. These logs can go in my dive bag with the wet gear. 

My logs have survived many dive trips.

I have given some away and sold some others. Recently I made another batch and have decided to share the process.

1. Buy some regular 8.5" x 11"  Rite in the Rain Copier Paper (Most of their papers can be run through a copier.

2. Download the files for the cover and log pages that suit you.

   1. The Microsoft Word version of Cover and Log. 

   2. The PDF version of the Cover and Log.

   3. These are just starting points. You may want to collect different data.

3. Each Sheet has 4 iterations in a two by two arrangement. See the images further down the page. Printed on 8.5" x 11" paper in landscape mode. You do not need to set your printer to landscape to use these.

4. Print on a LASER PRINTER, not an ink jet. Ink jet will run when it gets wet and it does not work to well on the Rite in the Rain Paper.

5. I printed one cover page and thirty log pages. This will make 4 finished logs, enough foir 120 dives.

   1. I printed my pages at Staples from the PDF versions on a thumb drive.

   2. I talked to the staff before starting the print job. They will want to see the box from Rite in the Rain to ensure that the paper will not damage there copiers.

   3. They will show you which tray YOUR paper should go in.

6. Put the Cover page on top of the log pages.

7. I then proceed to the Staples Print and Finish counter.

8. I ask them to do the following:

   1. Cut the pages into quarters.

   2. Black Coil Bind

9. Review the order to be clear what you want. Be patient. Be prepared to come back in a few days.

10. When done you will have four logs.
